Valentine's Day
What blog, website, or Uberpost would be complete without some reference to Valentine's Day? It's the day we love to love and the day we love to hate. In between the flowers and the sex there is the pressure and the depression.
Why is everything such a big deal though? There isn't even a coherent story for the existence of the holiday in the first place. There have been a number of "Valentine" or "Valintina" saints connected with the holiday. There's also the association to the old Roman festival of Lupercalia. Of course, when the Church began to take power in Rome, they saw people having fun on the ides of February, and immediately put a stop to it. After all, what is religion without a bit of party-pooping (oh yeah, and a whole lot of death)?
Why do we celebrate, then?
Men celebrate it for:
1) Sex
2) Nope, sorry, only one reason here. Sorry to disappoint.
Women celebrate it for:
1)Free Stuff
2)Sex
Hm...I'm not sure which list is better. I'm going with the guys because at least we don't require payment.
Anyway, that's about it for V-Day. For you singles out there (such as myself), make sure you listen to plenty of sappy love songs and trick yourself into thinking you don't need all this love crap. You might as well, you've got nothing better to do tonight.
